Play Therapy in Knoxville for Sensitive Kids

What is Play Therapy in Knoxville?

Play therapy is a form of child counseling that uses a child's natural language, play, for communication and expression. It also provides parents a supportive, research-based approach to their child's care.  Play is how kids naturally process what's been weighing on them and make sense of their world even when they don't have the words to explain. Play therapy meets kids where they're at and helps them express and process emotions, move through difficult experiences and change, and build confidence in a safe and supportive environment.

How Will My Child be Benefited in Play Therapy?

Play therapy in Knoxville provides your child a safe, natural, and non-threatening way to express what they're going through without feeling put on the spot or expected to have the "right" words. Through play therapy, children can work through big feelings, make sense of challenges they're experiencing, and begin to understand themselves in a deeper way.  Over time, they learn how to handle emotions in healthier ways and feel more confident navigating the world around them.

What to Expect from Play Therapy?

The first session is different from ongoing play therapy sessions.

Typically, the first session is an "intake" where I meet with parents to establish a foundation of trust and open communication. This allows me to get to know your family and learn more about your child's unique needs, concerns, and goals.

For divorced parents, I request any custody documentation in advance to ensure a smooth and respectful process. The goal of this session is to get to know you and your child, what brought you in, establish treatment goals together and create a safe and supportive environment for your child.

At Blossom & Brush | Child Counseling Studio, I offer an individualized approach to play therapy in Knoxville. Each child is different, and therapy is tailored to meet their emotional and developmental needs.

Play therapy is a dynamic and effective way for children to explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences in a safe and non-threatening environment. I use a flexible, individualized approach where art and nature objects are always available and the child is invited to choose what feels right for them in the moment. This may include art materials and natural objects such as shells, rocks, and sand, and carefully selected toys that support emotional expression, regulation, and healing.

How is Play Therapy Different from Talk Therapy?

Unlike adults, who typically talk during therapy sessions,

children naturally express themselves through play. Play therapy uses this natural language to helps kids communicate their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a way that feels safe and developmentally appropriate.

In my approach, I incorporate toys, art materials, and natural objects to create a welcoming space where kids can freely express themselves through play.

My goal is to provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where your child can gain insights, strengthen emotional skills, and develop tools to navigate life's challenges.

This is the foundation of play therapy in Knoxville, where kids are met with understanding & supported in a way that fits how they naturally communicate
