Like most specialty providers, I participate in limited insurance plans (Aetna only). Paying out-of-pocket is a great choice for people who want more privacy, confidentiality, and flexibility (type of treatment, how long and at what pace).

Benefits Calculator

Unsure if you even have out-of-network benefits?

Use the calculator below to get immediate answers to your out-of-network benefits questions. It provides information on your benefits, remaining deductible, and reimbursement rates.

Commonly Asked Questions

Can I use my out-of network-benefits? Yes! If you have out-of-network insurance benefits, you are welcome to use them. I am happy to submit claims on your behalf (via a company called Thrizer) or provide you with a monthly superbill, so you can coordinate with your insurance company directly.

How much will I actually pay for therapy using my out-of network-benefits? If you do have out-of-network insurance benefits, most insurance companies typically reimburse you for 60-80% of the cost of each session after your deductible is met. Use the benefits calculator above to get an instant estimate of your OON coverage, including your deductible and amount remaining on deductible, as well as an estimated reimbursement amount post-deductible. I’d also be happy to check your benefits for you! Just make sure to have your insurance card handy, with your Member ID, during our free intro call. Or if you prefer, you can confirm the benefits of your health insurance plan with your insurance provider directly. However, I highly recommend using the above free benefits calculator to save you time and energy!

How do I actually use my out-of network-benefits? Using your out-of-network benefits is usually a simple process, and there are two ways to do it: 1) I partner with a company called Thrizer, a service that submits claims to your insurance company on your behalf for a small fee. After your deductible is met, you have the option to pay for our session in full and wait for reimbursement from your insurance OR just pay your co-insurance. If you choose to pay your co-insurance, Thrizer can cover the rest of the session cost for you while they wait for reimbursement from your insurance company. 2) You pay for each session in full at the time of the appointment. You are then always able to submit claims to your insurance company directly. I will provide you with a monthly superbill that you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. *I am happy to discuss option in an intro call!

Does my child need to meet the full family out-of-network deductible? Your child's out-of-network deductible may be listed as a family deductible. Some plans have an individual deductible within the family deductible, meaning your child may not need to meet the entire family deductible before benefits begin. Because every insurance plan is different, the benefits calculator above helps provide an estimate of your out-of-network benefits, and your insurance company can confirm the details of your specific plan. I’m happy to help you understand your benefits and navigate the process together. If you’re still unsure, your insurance company can confirm the details of your specific plan.

What if I can't afford your rate? I do work with a third party platform called Headway to be able to accept a limited number of clients with Aetna insurance plans. If my insurance spots are full, I also accept out-of-network benefits. If you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance company will typically reimburse you for 60-80% of the cost of each session after you've met your deductible. Please use the above calculator to get an instant estimate of your OON coverage. I'd also be happy to offer you referrals to trusted clinicians in the area. If you're hoping to find an in-network provider, www.psychologytoday.com is a great resource.

What if I'm not sure we're a good fit? Before scheduling a session, I do a free 15 minute intro call with all potential new clients. This gives us a chance to get to know each other. Here's what you can expect: - I'll ask about why you're seeking therapy for your child - I'll tell you a little bit about myself and my approach as a child therapist - You can ask any questions I didn't cover - We'll talk about rates, insurance, availability, etc.

So we're a good fit. What's next? If we both decide it's a fit after our intro call, we'll schedule the first appointment or intake. I'll send you a couple of quick forms to complete before the intake.

What's the first session/intake like? As a child therapist, i have a collaborative, non-judgmental, and relatable approach that makes getting started a little easier. During the intake, I ask that only caregivers attend (at least one) and i'll ask a bunch of questions about your child's background to get a better picture of their life and journey. We will also discuss goals you have for them in therapy, and make space for questions you may have about the process.

How often will my child meet with you? After the intake, I meet with the majority of my clients on a weekly basis. Typically, I ask that all new clients commit to meeting weekly for at-least the first 5-6 sessions. This will allow your child to build rapport and get used to me and the playroom. I may recommend that we increase or decrease the frequency of sessions to best meet your needs.

How long will my child need to be in play therapy? On average, clients tend to find they can meet their goals in play therapy within 6 months, give or take. This is also really dependent on a child's personality, how quickly they are able to build rapport and whether concurrent issues are happening that effect them while they are in play therapy. I meet with parents periodically throughout treatment to discuss progress. I also have clients who choose to keep their child in play therapy for much longer. They see improvements and still really appreciate and enjoy having ongoing support for their child and a place for them to process thoughts and emotions.
